I guess I sort of expected it. There’d been some signs for a little while. Nothing I can really talk about though, NDAs and all that. It sucks. Roll7 was an amazing studio, doing amazing things. But it is what it is.
I’ve said this a couple of times on socials now, but it’s worth saying again: In 3 years Roll7 changed what I thought a studio should be, and I’ll be forever grateful for that.
So what’s next?
I’ve got a new job lined up, starting in September. I’m excited about it, I’ll talk more about that when I’m closer to starting. I’m taking August off to spend time with the family.
My daughter’s first birthday is this month! She’s been babbling Mama and Dada for a while now, trying to say her own name sometimes, too. It’s all very cute.
Until she was about 10 months old that is, and she started walking all over the place. She didn’t even bother with crawling, just straight to walking and she’s been impossible to keep control of ever since. If it’s not naptime, then it’s chaos.
That’s not even the next birthday though! The oldest has her birthday very soon too. This whole time of year is stacked, we only just had the other two kids’ birthdays in June, and mine and my partners were in May!
How about my other projects?
Well, I’ve had some time free up. I’m about halfway through a blog series on how to pool (mostly in Unity, but the concepts apply regardless). Originally it was going to be a single post, but it turns out I had a lot to say, so it’s going to be about 3 posts in a series instead. The code will be released open source afterwards.
I’ve kept up work on my engine, but that’s still not in a state to do anything useful. I’m still experimenting with exactly how I want things to work.
I’ve got a little Unity math and PCG library I’m working on for my own personal use, too. I’ve got some interesting things planned there too.
I’ve got a lot going on!
That’s it for now
The pooling series is almost done, so it won’t be as long of a gap between posts this time… probably!
